Dealing with Themes in Outlook 2013



In Outlook 2013, Microsoft has made a conscious
effort to present a new look and feel to the interface. With the advent of host of new features, it probably decided that it was time to change the default theme and has gone for a cleaner tone. While the light white hued theme may appeal to some users, others may not exactly take a fancy to the new design. For such folks, Outlook has included other themes that can be incorporated based on the user choice. Moreover you can also modify a given theme to meet your aesthetic needs and customize nearly every thing from font color and style to individual elements on which you wish the changes to apply.


Changing the Default theme

If you are looking to just change the existing theme to any other standard theme offered by Microsoft Office then you just need to click on the Options tab under the File menu and when the Options screen shows up, change the Office theme to any of choices available in the drop down list. Incidentally you can choose from Dark grey to Light grey or stick with the White one.


Altering the Color scheme of a theme to suit your palette

In case you are looking to tweak the existing theme into something more suited to you palette then you just need follow the steps given below

a)      Go the Ribbon interface in Outlook and then hit on view
b)      In the View option group click on the Change View option
c)      On the subsequent Manage screen choose the existing view settings applicable on your machine and then opt for the Modify options
d)     Next screen would show up the conditional formatting and herein you can make all the adjustments. From changing the fonts to color, customize the view to your taste. It is important to select the individual elements, say Unread emails or Overdue email, on which you wish the color changes to apply and ideally you should check all the options available in the screen.
e)      Once done ensure that the view is applied to all folders

Incidentally views can be changed for a specific folder or all folders based on your need.
